Aunt Nora's recipe never fails. These little gems are very light and melt in your mouth.
Servings
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Start to finish: 20 minutes
Notes: Be careful not to work the dough too much, as the biscuits will not be as light if you do.
Serving Ideas: Serve with butter/margarine, honey, and/or jam..
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup shortening 1/3 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shortening
1/3 cup milk
Mix all the dry ingredients. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk. Turn out onto a floured surface and work just enough to produce a consistent dough. Pat to 1/2" thick and cut into biscuits. Bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden.
